Northern France's Mont Saint Michel attracts 2.4 million tourists a year. As the highest tides of the year covered its surrounding bay, the World Heritage site almost returned to its true island status. Works are under way to restore this by 2015 -- the bay is being dredged and a new causeway bridge has opened to pedestrians. VIDEOGRAPHIC
