World Health Organization Assistant Director-General for Family, Women's and Children's Health, and Vice Chair of the Board of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance
Dr. Flavia Bustreo is a Candidate for the post of Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), on special leave from her position of Assistant Director-General for Family, Women's and Children's Health. She has represented WHO at the Board of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, where she was elected vice-Chair in 2014.
As former Director, Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health, Dr Bustreo played a leadership role in the development and implementation of the United Nations Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health.
Dr Bustreo has than 30 years’ experience as a medical doctor and public health professional with WHO, the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, UNICEF, the World Bank, and in the field from Sudan and Argentina to Norway, She is a passionate advocate for public health and a prolific writer.
