Des skieurs secourus d'une avalanche à Banff

Sept skieurs ont dû être secourus samedi dans le parc national Banff après que trois d'entre eux furent ensevelis par une avalanche.

Selon Parcs Canada, les skieurs ont déclenché une avalanche vendredi vers 16 h 30, à moins d'un kilomètre du refuge Bow, qu'ils tentaient de gagner.

La neige a complètement enseveli un skieur, en a partiellement enseveli un autre, lui fracturant la jambe et en a partiellement enneigé un troisième, le blessant au genou.

Parcs Canada explique que les quatre autres membres du groupe ont partiellement extirpé leurs camarades de la neige vers 18 h, puis l'ont appelé à l'aide.

Ce n'est que le lendemain à l'aube que le sauvetage a commencé, en raison des risques d'avalanches, dit Parcs Canada.

Durant l'intervalle, l'organisme fédéral a recommandé au groupe de se rendre en lieu sûr pour la nuit.

Puis, samedi, un premier blessé a été héliporté avant 9 h, tandis que le reste du groupe a été évacué en véhicule à 10 h.

Selon Parcs Canada, les membres du groupe avaient l'équipement et la formation appropriés, ce qui leur a permis de repérer et d'extirper leurs amis ensevelis.
