VANCOUVER - Deux contestations judiciaires ont été déposées vendredi en lien avec l'approbation du projet d'oléoduc Northern Gateway par le gouvernement fédéral.

La Première Nation Gitxaala, basée dans le nord de la Colombie-Britannique, a fait une demande de révision judiciaire à la Cour d'appel fédérale.

Ecojustice a aussi déposé une demande au nom des organismes ForestEthics Advocacy, Living Oceans et la Raincoast Conservation Foundation.

Les groupes environnementaux souhaitent obtenir une ordonnance de la cour annulant l'approbation de l'oléoduc proposé par l'entreprise Enbridge, de Calgary.

L'avocat d'Ecojustice, Barry Robinson, estime que l'approbation fédérale est une mauvaise décision basée sur un rapport erroné présenté par le comité fédéral d'évaluation environnementale.

Les groupes demandent aussi au cabinet conservateur de révéler les raisons ayant mené à son approbation du projet, qui lierait les sables bitumineux de l'Alberta à un terminal maritime de la Colombie-Britannique.
