ORURO, BOLIVIA - APRIL 15 : A group of miners take out the parts of the rocks after the detonation with dynamite, on April 15, 2010, in Oruro, Bolivia. Bolivian mountains and soil are rich in minerals and its economy still depends heavily on mining. Miners spend hours in the mines, and this makes them surly and sullen. After the working hours, they leave the tunnels and go back home with their families. Real communities grow in the mining towns: They have their own festivals, habits and traditions. After the economic crisis of the eighties and the breakdown of the National Mining Company (COMIBOL), miners organized themselves in cooperatives and unions. Nowadays, these organizations gather over the 80% of Bolivian miners, but do not have the same equipment as the big firms. Oruro, for example, has a population of 235.600 inhabitants and 34 percent of them make a living from the mining Industry. The greatest wealth is concentrated in Potosi, La Paz and Oruro, which include tin (4th world producers), silver (11th world producers), copper, tungsten, antimony and zinc.
