John Galliano sat for his first TV interview in over two years last night, speaking exclusively with Charlie Rose about the scandalous incidents that brought down his career.

In the much-anticipated conversation, Rose addressed Galliano directly about his racist and anti-Semitic comments, which caused him to be fired from his creative director position at Dior and from his eponymous label in 2011. How can he explain, Rose asked, the disgusting comments he made about Asians, Jews and "loving Hitler"?

"No one was more shocked than myself, Charlie," said Galliano, repeating a sentiment he expressed in his Vanity Fair interview last week. He also said that he doesn't remember ever uttering the statements:

Galliano: At that point in my career, I had become what is known as a blackout drinker. It's where one can't transfer long-term memory into short-term memory, so I have no memory of that event.

Rose: You remember none of these words?

Galliano: No.

Rose: You remember being there?

Galliano: No. I wasn't aware that I'd been filmed. I was in a blackout. In instances like that, what I've since discovered, since I wanted to know too where that hate came from, I've discovered that when one is a blackout drinker, what happens is that it can release paranoia of such a stage that it can trigger frustrations from childhood. And due to that, it can trigger a self-defense mechanism. Now, having had quite a tough time at school and being subjected, persecuted, bullied, called all sorts of names as children do, and living a lie because I was gay and couldn't admit to that at home... honestly there was no... I couldn't escape.

Galliano also added that at the time, he had been doing research on the life of Rudolf Nureyev, who was also known for making anti-Semitic statements. "When I research," Galliano said, "I really go into it -- I need to know everything."

Rose didn't go easy on the designer, saying, "You can't look for an excuse in what you have done, and you can't, in a sense, say, 'This explains everything.'" He also raises the point that this wasn't one incident, but rather repeated instances of hate speech.

But Galliano stuck closely to his talking points, the ones we've heard from other sources over the past few years: the pressure of creating multiple collections a year, his spiraling addiction, his subsequent commitment to getting sober and his new relationship with the Anti-Defamation League. "Sometimes I was acting like God, and now I'm not," Galliano tells Rose. "Now I know I'm not in the driving seat, and I listen and talk to God daily."

Interestingly, Rose asked Galliano about his fellow designer, Alexander McQueen: "When Alexander McQueen committed suicide... what did you think?

"I understood," he replied.

Hear Galliano for the first time in over two years in the video clips above and below, and catch the whole 53-minute interview at CharlieRose.com.

As a fashion icon, Kanye West is an enigma. Is he being embraced by the fashion world or mocked by it? Is he really interested in high fashion or merely along for the runway shows and name-dropping? And about his girlfriend, Kim Kardashian -- what does he really think about what she wears?

West's epic new New York Times interview attempts to clarify some of those questions... and mostly fails, seeing as Kanye is one of the most inscrutable figures in pop culture today. But Kanye did attempt to explain once and for all why he's passionate about fashion:

But there’s vanity in fashion. You make clothes, but some people think it’s a vanity project, that you don’t take it seriously.

But the passion is for humanity. The passion is for people. The passion is for the 18-year-old version of myself. The passion is for the kids at my shows. I need to do more. I need to be able to give people more of what they want that currently is behind a glass. I don’t believe that it’s luxury to go into a store and not be able to afford something. I believe luxury is to be able to go into a store and be able to afford something.

I sat down with a clothing guy that I won’t mention, but hopefully if he reads this article, he knows it’s him and knows that out of respect, I didn’t mention his name: this guy, he questioned me before I left his office:, "If you’ve done this, this, and this, why haven’t you gone further in fashion?" And I say, "I'm learning." But ultimately, this guy that was talking to me doesn’t make Christmas presents, meaning that nobody was asking for his [stuff] as a Christmas present. If you don’t make Christmas presents, meaning making something that’s so emotionally connected to people, don’t talk to me.

To be fair, the idea of making clothing that elicits emotions is a respectable endeavor and a savvy business move. But Christmas gifts? We doubt we'll be seeing Kanye's $6,000 high heels under the tree anytime soon. Plus, is that the sort of metaphor that will impress the fashion critics?

But that clearly doesn't matter to Kanye, who is his own worst critic. When asked by the Times what he thought about his own clothes, he didn't mince words:

Does it take you less time to get dressed now than it did five years ago?

Hell, yeah.

You look at your outfits from five or seven years ago, and it’s like —

Yeah, kill self. That’s all I have to say. Kill self.

Thankfully, he wasn't so harsh on his girlfriend, Kim Kardashian:

On "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," there’s a really affectionate scene where you go and help Kim sort through her clothes.

That was from a place of love. It’s hard when people read things in a lot of different ways. You know, the amount of backlash I got from it is when I decided to not be on the show anymore. And it’s not that I have an issue with the show; I just have an issue with the amount of backlash that I get. Because I just see like, an amazing person that I’m in love with that I want to help.

Aww. We may not understand a single thing about Kanye when it comes to fashion, but it does seem clear that he loves Kim. Maybe he should stick to his job as "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" guest-star and stop confusing us with all this fashion business.

Read the whole interview at NYTimes.com -- you won't regret it.
The Telegraph reports that after the Duchess of Cambridge was spotted shopping for baby furnishings in a jersey maternity dress by Asos last week, thousands of women supposedly scooped up their own versions on Asos.com.

Luckily, the dress didn't totally sell out -- there are fewer pregnant shoppers than non-pregnant shoppers, so it's unlikely any of Kate's maternity styles will be completely bought out. The ASOS Maternity Belted Dress With Scoop Neck in navy is still available, and it has actually been reduced from $42.43 to $29.70.

Kate also had on Pied a Terre wedges (heels in the last trimester -- she's a brave soul) and a purple cardigan, demonstrating that pregnancy hasn't changed her style all too much. We doubt becoming a mother will, either... but we'll find out in about five weeks!
According to the Telegraph, the new role will see Wu in charge of Hugo Boss's main womenswear ready-to-wear and accessory collections.

Wu will continue to design for his eponymous label, which is based in New York City. As the head honcho at BOSS, the designer will work with the team in Germany and also establish a New York studio for the brand. His first BOSS collection will be Pre-Fall 2013, debuting this winter, followed by a Fall 2014 collection presented at New York Fashion Week in February.

The new job is a big one for Wu, who has previously made his name with his own Jason Wu collection. His most famous client is, of course, Michelle Obama, who chose to wear Wu at not one but two inaugural balls.
In recent years, Wu has also expanded with a diffusion line, Miss Wu; a collection for Target; and collaborations with brands such as Lancome and Swarovski.

Now he's upped his game with a second full-time gig. With Wu at the helm, will you be taking a closer look at BOSS this winter? Read more at WWD.com.
To kick things off, the bride's parents, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, threw Madeleine and Chris a pre-wedding dinner attended by the happy couple as well as Madeleine's siblings, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Carl Philip.

Also in attendance: lots of nobles! Princess Charlene of Monaco stole the show in a sleeveless gold gown with a vest-like topper (way to go avant-garde, Char!). Princess Tatiana of Greece chose a strapless navy dress, Crown Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece did a chic tea-length frock with a longer back hem, Princess Marie of Denmark went with neutral taupe and Princess Martha Louise of Norway made a bold statement with a colorful checkered print.

But the fashion highlight of the night wasn't a dress but rather a special guest: Valentino! The Italian designer is the brains behind Madeleine's wedding dress, which will be unveiled at tomorrow's big ceremony.
Oh, how we love a royal wedding. Flip through the photos and get excited!

At the 92Y last night, the designer was asked yet again about his history with FLOTUS -- namely, the fact that he seems to be the only major American designer that she's never worn. Is it de la Renta who's got an issue with Obama, having criticized her fashion choices publicly in the past, or Obama who is shunning de la Renta?

The designer had this to say:

"Would I love to dress her? I would love to dress everybody! She’s a very good-looking lady and it’s her own right to wear what she wants to wear. But I was upset when the Chinese Prime Minister came to visit and she wore a foreign designer. What a lost opportunity to showcase our industry. I’m sure she didn’t do it on purpose, but she was not well-advised."

Again with the state dinner, Oscar? de la Renta made headlines back in 2011 after Obama wore a Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown for a Chinese state dinner. At the time, he told Women's Wear Daily, "My understanding is that the visit was to promote American-Chinese trade -- American products in China and Chinese products in America. Why do you wear European clothes?"

He had previously criticized the first lady for wearing a J. Crew cardigan to meet Queen Elizabeth II in 2009. "You don't...go to Buckingham Palace in a sweater," he remarked.

Since that time, Michelle has worn nearly every major American fashion designer, from Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors to Diane von Furstenberg and Vera Wang. But she's never worn de la Renta, a favorite of past first ladies like Hillary Clinton.

But now we know that the ball is in her court. FLOTUS, Oscar is totally over the whole Buckingham Palace incident (and almost over the McQueen thing) and ready to dress you. Got any state dinners coming up?

Whether she likes it or not, Sarah Jessica Parker will always be known for her shoes. So the "Sex and the City" star has finally decided to turn her famous footwear obsession into a lucrative project: a shoe line!

It makes so much sense, we're surprised it's just happening now. "In a silly way, I think it's what people have expected of me most because of Carrie Bradshaw," Parker tells Vogue.com. The actress will be teaming up with George Malkemus, CEO of Manolo Blahnik, for a line of shoes, bags and trench coats called SJP.

The collection, with shoe prices ranging from $200 to $300 and bags going for just below $700, will sold exclusively at Nordstrom and hit stores in early 2014.

While her "SATC" character was shoe-obsessed (remember the lost Manolos episode?), Sarah Jessica's love of high heels doesn't quite match Carrie Bradshaw's. "For ten or so years, I literally ran in heels. I worked 18-hour days and never took them off," SJP told The Edit back in March. Now, unfortunately, "the chickens are coming home to roost" and Sarah Jessica limits her high-heel wearing to only the nicest shoes.

But she's still got all that footwear knowlege stowed away. "Because I got to play that role, I wore a lot of shoes," Parker tells Vogue.com about new venture, "and by default I learned an enormous amount. It's hard to walk away from that."

We're so glad she didn't. While there are no photos of the collection yet, we'll be keeping an eye out for pumps and flats bearing the "SJP" logo in the coming months. Do you think there will be a replica of the famous blue Manolos in the bunch?

But Pippa just landed a new job that's her most high-profile yet: contributing editor for Vanity Fair. The famous Middleton sis has penned an editorial for Vanity Fair's July 2013 issue that focuses on her experiences attending Wimbledon. The recently-released cover features the headline: "Pippa Middleton's Inside Guide To Wimbledon."

"We're delighted to have Pippa as a contributor to Vanity Fair," said editor Graydon Carter. "She's a keen observer of classic British pastimes. She is also an avid sportswoman, and we look forward to her take on traditional English pursuits, beginning with Wimbledon."

While we're not sure how riveting Pippa's tennis adventures really are, the gig is a perfect fit for Pippa. She's an ardent tennis fan who attends all the elite matches, she's got experience writing for magazines and Vanity Fair loves them some British royals. (We also sort of saw this coming, after Pippa was seen leaving a Vanity Fair party last month.)

For the new feature, previewed on VanityFair.com today, Middleton writes about attending her first Wimbledon match and conducts a Q+A with Roger Federer, "getting the scoop on what he has for breakfast."

Scintillating? Who cares! With this new job, Pippa has launched herself into more elite ranks than ever before. Now that she's in the Conde Nast family, might a Vogue story be far behind?

Rihanna spent yesterday morning doing just that. "Got the keys to #CoCoChanels apartment!!! Yesterday=Most Legendary day in Paris!!!!" she tweeted, followed by a series of photos of her playing around the gorgeous old home at 31 Rue Cambon. The trip appears to be courtesy of Chanel, who also seem to have gifted the singer a yellow bag. (Some girls have all the luck...)

After touring the premises with Laetitia Crahay, Chanel's designer of costume jewelry and accessories, Rihanna excitedly tweeted photos of herself sitting on Chanel's "legendary staircase," replicating a famous scene of Coco lounging on a white sofa and "getting a history lesson on #CoCo."

Basically, it was the best field trip ever. It makes us wonder: Does Rihanna's Chanel Day Of Fun mean she's actually signed up for that rumored Chanel ad campaign that never happened? Maybe we'll be seeing RiRi in some Chanel commercials after all...

After over two years of silence, John Galliano has finally opened up about his anti-Semitic rant and subsequent firing in an exclusive interview with Vanity Fair.

Galliano agreed to grant his first interview since 2011 to Vanity Fair's Ingrid Sischy, posing for an accompanying photo spread by Annie Leibovitz. Despite his previous reticence, including a refusal to address his past in a class at Parsons, Galliano gets surprisingly candid with Sischy. In a preview released by Vanity Fair, the designer addresses the "I love Hitler" comments that got him fired from Dior:

"It's the worst thing I have said in my life, but I didn't mean it... I have been trying to find out why that anger was directed at this race. I now realize I was so fucking angry and so discontent with myself that I just said the most spiteful thing I could."

Like many of his supporters, Galliano connects his comments to his alcoholism and drug addiction. "I didn't need alcohol for any of that," he tells Sischy. "At first alcohol was like a crutch outside of Dior. Then I would use it to crash after the collections. I'd take a couple of days to get over it, like everyone. But with more collections, the crash happened more often, and then I was a slave to it."

Eventually, Galliano says, "I was going to end up in a mental asylum or six feet under."

What did happen: In February 2011, he was arrested for allegedly attacking a couple in Paris and using anti-Jewish insults, in addition to making comments like "I like Hitler" in a separate incident, caught on tape. He was fired from his post as creative director of Dior as well as at his eponymous label, and he slunk out of sight and into recovery for nearly two years.

But over time, Galliano started to inch his way back into the industry. He was spotted in July 2012 dining with Anna Wintour at the Ritz in Paris, and in January 2013, he was invited by Oscar de la Renta to help design in his studio. In April 2013, Parsons confirmed that Galliano would be teaching a three-day master class for design students. (The class ended up being cancelled before it could happen.)

This new Vanity Fair interview, rumored for nearly a month, is seen by some as the final move of Galliano's steady comeback. It remains to be seen, however, whether his newfound willingness to talk and apologize will earn him back his spot at the top.

Even with the biggest celebrity names in the room, there's no one who can get the fashion crowd going like Hillary Clinton. At Monday night's CFDA Awards, Clinton had the crowd cheering on their feet as she presented the first award of the night to her good friend, Oscar de la Renta.

Introduced by Diane von Furstenberg, Hillary received a standing ovation. She began with a few jokes directed at the evening's host, Andy Cohen of Bravo: "I'm going to be pitching Andy on a new show for Bravo," she quipped. "We can call it 'Project Pantsuit.'"

(Later, when Andy took the stage, he assured the audience, "Project Pantsuit is totally a go! Madeleine Albright is doing the first challenge.")

Clinton also described her close friendship with de la Renta, which began in 1993. Clinton met the designer and his wife in the receiving line at the Kennedy Center Honors, where de la Renta shook the then-first lady's hand and said, "That's one of my dresses."

Laughing recalling the moment, Clinton said, "I was then, as I am now, such a fashion icon myself." De la Renta examined the first lady's dress and gave his stamp of approval, a memorable start to a long friendship. The designer went on to work with Hillary on her 1997 inaugural ball gown, her 1998 Vogue cover, the 2002 CFDA Awards and Chelsea Clinton's wedding in 2010.

Oscar had equally high praise for Clinton. Addressing the CFDA Awards crowd, he pronounced her the next president of the United States, a statement that earned cheers from the audience. The fashion crowd was definitely inspired, not only by Clinton's political promise but also by her style: We spotted at least four fashionistas sporting pants on last night's CFDA red carpet, including Vera Wang and Carolina Herrera.

Maybe there will be a "Project Pantsuit" after all.

The annual awards ceremony, hosted by Bravo's Andy Cohen at Lincoln Center, feted the most talented fashion designers of the year. The big winners of the night:

Womenswear Designer of the Year: Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler

Menswear Designer of the Year: Thom Browne

Accessories Designer of the Year: Phillip Lim for 3.1 Phillip Lim

The Swarovski Awards for Emerging Talent, recognizing fashion's up-and-comers, went to the following designers:

Swarovski Womenswear Designer of the Year: Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty for Suno

Swarovski Menswear Designer of the Year: Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne for Public School

Swarovski Accessories Designer of the Year: Pamela Love

Tim Blanks of Style.com received the Media Award in honor of Eugenia Sheppard, and costume designer Colleen Atwood took home the Board of Directors’ Tribute award. Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy was presented with the International Award.

All the designers were quick to thank Diane von Furstenberg and Steven Kolb of the CFDA, and many (wisely) gave props to Anna Wintour. Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty cutely thanked each other, Lazaro Hernandez acknowledged the "love of his life" Jack McCollough, and Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne were so stunned they could barely speak.

Kerry Washington and Jessica Chastain also offered up their kind words, introducing the designers in stunning Jason Wu and Givenchy dresses (respectively).

But it was Hillary Clinton who really stole the show. Presenting the first award of the night so she'd have time to run to Henry Kissinger's 90th birthday party, the former Secretary of State praised Oscar de la Renta's design skills as well as his philanthropy, including work in his native Dominican Republic. She also laughed recalling the first time she and Oscar met, at the Kennedy Center Honors in 1993. "I was then, as I am now, such a fashion icon," quipped Hillary.

Indeed. To see Hillz, Oscar and the rest of the stylish crowd at the 2013 CFDA Awards, check out the photos below.

The era of models-as-cover-stars came to an end around the time Anna Wintour took over at Vogue. There, she popularized the casting of celebrities -- mainly actresses and pop stars -- for fashion covers instead of models. Her first major celeb cover featured Madonna, a choice that was seen as a risk... and resulted in a 40 percent spike in newsstand sales.

The shift was a positive eye-opener for Vogue and the other magazines that followed suit. But the turn from professional models to celebrities might have had a negative impact on the celebs themselves. In a recent interview with Amanda de Cadenet for "The Conversation," actress Busy Philipps provided an interesting insight:

"13 years ago, every cover of every magazine wasn't actresses, it was mostly models and then actresses would be featured inside. And now every actress is expected to also be a model."

It's been widely discussed that the move from models to Hollywood A-listers negatively affected the models. Naomi Campbell said it best: "Of course, we want the magazine covers back... [A young model has] got more to compete with and there are only a certain amount of covers they’re going to give a model a year. Before, you had models 12 months a year."

But there's been little talk about how the shift has affected actresses. As Busy said, the need to be "cover-ready" has put more pressure on celebrities to stay fit.

The consequence, ironically, is that while magazine readers strive to achieve the celebrity body shapes they see on magazine covers, the celebrities on the covers are striving to maintain bodies like the models they've replaced.

The result? No one really wins. Let's hope that Anna Wintour was watching Philipps' interview and took away a few insights. Watch the conversation for yourself in the video above, or go to TheConversation.tv.
Two women in jeans and bare chests stormed the stage, interrupting the four "Top Model" finalists on the "runway." They were quickly removed by a security team, but not before the crowd got a glimpse of the slogans on their chests, including "Heidi's Horror Picture Show."

According to Us Weekly, "Top Model" host Heidi Klum took the interruption in stride and told the audience: "I have just been seeing boobies in front of me. Too bad it happened at this special moment!"

WARNING: The photos below contain nudity and may not be safe for viewing at work.

FEMEN, founded in 2008 to protest discrimination against women in the Ukraine, is known for addressing issues of women's rights with topless protests. This morning, the group took to Facebook to explain the motivation behind their latest show of activism:

FEMEN disrupted the live broadcast of Germany's most popular casting-show Germany's Next Top Model. The program format is pimp-show where world-famous supermodel Heidi Klum plays the role of "mom" and forms a bevy of underage girls to fashion-fools. The unauthorized appearance of FEMEN sekstremists at the epicenter of the show broadcasted live made the organizers and participants in the state of torpor. FEMEN sekstremists managed to make their accusations in the face of fashion-fascist ideologist of the show Heidi Klum in front of 15000th stadium and the millions of TV viewers audience. FEMEN regards the fashion industry as an element of pimp business and has consistently opposed the commercialization of the female body. Every year the fashion business millstones grind hundreds of thousands of girls, promoting the brilliance and richness of modeling career, forcing women to false ideals, provoking a real disease. Fooled by fashion propoganda, failed by fashion models, women regularly join the ranks of sex workers, and psychiatric patients. Stop the fashion business! Stop Prostitution! The true mission of a woman is a revolution!

FEMEN previously took on the issue of female objectification when they protested Barbie, crashing the opening of the Barbie "Dreamhouse Experience" in Berlin earlier this month.

Perhaps the group's most famous show of activism was after Tunisian student Amina Tyler posted FEMEN-inspired photos on her Facebook, wearing the slogans "Fuck Your Morals" and "My Body Belongs To Me, And Is Not The Source Of Anyone’s Honor" across her bare chest. In response, FEMEN's Tunisian Facebook page was infiltrated by Islamist hackers, and Tyler became the target of death threats. In support of Tyler, FEMEN launched "International Topless Jihad Day" and staging topless protests around Europe.

The "Germany's Next Top Model" incident comes just two days after three FEMEN members disrobed in front of a Tunisian courthouse to protest the treatment of Amina Tyler.
