La collection de photographies en noir et blanc du coloré musicien Elton John est exposée au musée londonien Tate Modern.

L'exposition The Radical Eye, qui débute cette semaine, comporte une sélection de 190 photos qui ornent habituellement les murs de la résidence du rockeur.

À ceux qui croient que le noir et blanc semble trop ordinaire pour un homme connu pour son opulence et ses tenues flamboyantes, ne craignez rien: l'énergie et la fougue sont au rendez-vous.

Elton John, qui a longtemps vécu dans l'excès, a commencé à acheter des photographies au moment où il est devenu sobre dans les années 1990. Le musicien dit d'ailleurs avoir remplacé l'alcool par une autre dépendance beaucoup plus saine.

Il possède maintenant une des collections privées de photographies du 20e siècle les plus importantes, avec quelque 8 000 images.

Les photos exposées au musée ont été prises entre 1915 et 1950, moment où la photographie a commencé à s'imposer comme un médium artistique.

L'exposition, qui ouvre ses portes jeudi et se déroule jusqu'au 7 mai, donne un aperçu de l'histoire de la photographie ainsi que des goûts personnels de Sir Elton John.

Les photographies sont exposées dans des cadres souvent élaborés choisis par Elton John lui-même, qui recouvre de photos les murs de sa maison, du plancher au plafond.
