Cheveux gris et nouvelle cicatrice, Harry Potter revient à 34 ans pour la Coupe du monde de Quidditch, dans un essai publié mardi sur internet par JK Rowling. Une première depuis 2007.

Les aventures d'Harry Potter devaient se terminer quai 9 3/4 de la gare King's Cross, à Londres. "The End", avait affirmé JK Rowling, qui en 2011 "n'envisageait pas d'écrire un autre roman".

Et pourtant, Harry Potter et sa bande d'amis reviennent à Poudlard, où ils sont accueillis comme des stars à l'occasion d'un tournoi mondial de Quidditch, sport qui se joue sur des balais volants.

Ecrit sous la forme d'un article signé par la journaliste de la Gazette des Sorciers Rita Skeeter, l'essai de 1 500 mots est publié dans le cadre d'une série d'épisodes intitulée "La Coupe du Monde de Quidditch 2014", sur Pottermore, le site de JK Rowling dédié à l'univers de la saga.

Harry Potter arbore les mêmes lunettes rondes de son adolescence, mais a quelques cheveux gris et la pommette légèrement entaillée en plus, ce qui pourrait être, d'après Rita Skeeter, le signe qu'il combat la magie noire en tant que membre du groupe des Aurors.

Fidèle à ses côtés, Ron Weasley, dont le crâne est désormais presque dégarni. Après avoir codirigé l'entreprise de farces et attrapes de son frère George, la Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, Ron s'est lancé dans une carrière au ministère de la Magie.

"La femme fatale du groupe", Hermione Granger, est devenue vice-présidente du département de la justice magique.

L'auteur fait monter le suspens: Harry est-il impliqué dans des intrigues pouvant aboutir à "une nouvelle ère de terreur et de désordre"? Ou bien est-il maudit par sa femme Ginny?

Le dernier article doit être publié vendredi et signé par le personnage de Ginny Potter, désormais journaliste.

Après la fin de la saga, JK Rowling et son équipe de communication avaient souhaité continuer l'aventure avec les "moldus" (non sorciers) et mordus de cet univers magique via le site interactif Pottermore.

Elle a annoncé en décembre dernier qu'elle travaillait sur une adaptation de l'histoire de son héros au théâtre, ainsi que sur un film dérivé de l'univers animalier de la saga.

Harry Potter est un des plus grand succès mondial de l'édition, avec plus de 450 millions d'exemplaires vendus dans le monde. Les adaptations cinématographiques ont eux aussi battu tous les records, avec plus de 7 milliards de dollars de recettes.
