BRUXELLES - L'Union européenne a accueilli plus de réfugiés l'an dernier, surtout en raison de la crise syrienne, a indiqué jeudi l'agence statistique officielle Eurostat.

Le nombre de demandeurs d'asile qui ont été acceptés a bondi de 17 pour cent à 135 700 en 2013, comparativement à 116 200 un an plus tôt.

Cela signifie qu'environ le tiers des 462 000 demandes soumises ont été acceptées.

Environ le quart des réfugiés, soit quelque 36 000 personnes, provenaient de Syrie, comparativement à 16 000 Afghans et 9700 Somaliens.

La Suède et ses 9,6 millions d'habitants ont accueilli 26 400 demandeurs d'asile. L'Allemagne, le pays le plus peuplé d'Europe, arrive en deuxième place avec 26 100 réfugiés.

La France a ouvert ses portes à 16 200 personnes, et l'Italie à 14 500 personnes.
