Les 5700 disparus dans les inondations en Inde sont présumés morts

LUCKNOW, Inde - Plus de 5700 personnes portées disparues depuis les inondations dévastatrices du mois dernier dans le nord de l'Inde sont maintenant présumées mortes, a annoncé un haut responsable mardi.

Vijay Bahuguna, ministre en chef de l'État d'Uttarakhand, a déclaré que le gouvernement régional verserait un dédommagement financier aux proches de ceux qui pourraient avoir péri dans les inondations et les glissements de terrain qui ont frappé la région en juin.

Le précédent bilan officiel faisait état de 600 morts, mais le gouvernement avait plusieurs fois répété qu'il pourrait être beaucoup plus élevé.

M. Bahuguna a indiqué que la recherche des disparus se poursuivrait, tout en précisant que le nombre exact de personnes tuées dans les inondations pourrait ne jamais être connu.
