MIAMI (AFP) - "Il y a beaucoup d'argent ici, évidemment. L'idée, c'est de le rediriger vers des écoles": à partir de jeudi, Julian Lennon, fils aîné du légendaire Beatle, vendra ses photos au profit d'un projet caritatif en marge de la foire internationale d'art contemporain Art Basel, à Miami.

Pendant quatre jours, la métropole de Floride va se mettre à l'heure de l'art contemporain pour la 11e édition d'Art Basel, le plus important rendez-vous de ce type aux Etats-Unis, une déclinaison de la foire organisée chaque année à Bâle, en Suisse.

Et de jeudi à dimanche, en marge d'Art Basel elle-même, qui accueillera dans le Palais des Congrès de Miami Beach des oeuvres de quelque 2.000 artistes et 250 galeries du monde entier, ce sont en tout 22 autres manifestations et expositions qui sont organisées dans la ville.

C'est dans l'une d'elles --Overture-- que Julian Lennon exposera et vendra ses photographies: de 3.500 à 5.500 dollars l'unité, elles sont encore loin du prix affiché par des oeuvres présentées ailleurs dans la ville.

Comme dans le cas d'autres oeuvres présentées à Overture, une partie de la recette tirée de la vente de ses photos aidera à financer un projet --"Art for a better world"-- dont l'objectif est de financer des programmes artistiques dans des écoles défavorisées.

"Si vous avez accès aux arts, que ce soit la peinture, la photographie ou la musique, cela ouvre votre esprit de manière incroyable à la compréhension du monde et à l'apprentissage", se réjouit le fils de John Lennon et de Cynthia Powell, dont les parents ont divorcé quand il avait 5 ans.

"Cela n'a rien de neuf pour moi"

"J'ai souvent travaillé pour des projets caritatifs, je suis très impliqué dans des sujets environnementaux ou humanitaires", rappelle Julian Lennon: "Quel que soit le travail que j'effectue, je verse toujours au moins 10% de mes gains à ma fondation (WhiteFeather)".

"C'est le sens de mon engagement" ici, souligne-t-il auprès de l'AFP en surveillant l'accrochage de son exposition: "J'ai fait ça toute ma vie, cela n'a rien de neuf pour moi".

Aucune expérience personnelle n'a pourtant poussé l'artiste dans cette direction: "Il s'agit juste de voir le monde qui nous entoure, toute cette douleur, cette souffrance. C'est déplorable que la situation soit ainsi, mais certains d'entre nous essaient de faire en sorte que cela change".

L'exposition de Julian Lennon, "Alone", présente une douzaine de photographies "qui n'ont pas de rapport avec le fait d'être solitaire, mais plutôt avec l'idée d'être seul avec ses pensées, dans son esprit", souligne-t-il.

"C'est un temps pour la réflexion, sur le passé, le présent, l'avenir, et ce sont seulement de petits moments dans le temps", explique-t-il devant ses photos de nuages, de crépuscules ou d'une ville sous une lumière ténue.
