Cinq Palestiniens ont été tués jeudi lors de raids aériens sur Gaza, et trois Israéliens tués par une roquette, au deuxième jour d'une vaste opération militaire israélienne nommée "Pilier de Défense" contre les groupes armés du territoire palestinien.

Deux Palestiniens ont été tués par une frappe aérienne israélienne dans le nord de la bande de Gaza, et trois autres à Khan Younès (sud du territoire). Ces derniers appartenaient aux Brigades Ezzedine al-Qassam, la branche armée du Hamas au pouvoir à Gaza, selon un communiqué de cette organisation.

Au total, treize Palestiniens ont péri, dont deux mineurs et une femme, et au moins 115 ont été blessés depuis le début de l'opération "Pilier de Défense" déclenchée mercredi après-midi avec l'assassinat ciblé du chef des opérations militaires du Hamas, Ahmad Jaabari.

L'armée israélienne a effectué "environ 150 frappes sur Gaza" depuis la mort d'Ahmad Jaabari, et les frappes continuaient à un rythme soutenu à la mi-journée, selon les correspondants de l'AFP.

Les funérailles d'Ahmad Jaabari se déroulaient dans la matinée en présence de milliers de personnes, dont des dizaines de militants armés du Hamas, a constaté l'AFP. Mais aucun dirigeant important du Hamas n'était visible.

En Israël, trois personnes ont été tuées en début de matinée par une roquette tirée sur la ville de Kiryat Malachi, à 30 kilomètres de la bande de Gaza, a indiqué la police.

Un immeuble d'habitation, dont le dernier étage étaient éventré, a été touché de plein fouet par le projectile.

"L'option d'une opération terrestre (à Gaza) reste ouverte", a assuré à l'AFP le ministre israélien de l'Intérieur Elie Yishaï, en visite à Kiryat Malachi.

"Nous pourchasserons les dirigeants du Hamas comme des bêtes féroces (...) Nous voulons éliminer la menace des tirs contre nos civils", a averti de son côté le ministre des Transports Israël Katz.

Londres a désigné le Hamas comme "principal responsable de la crise" au Proche-Orient, faisant écho aux déclaration de l'ambassadrice américaine à l'ONU Susan Rice, qui avait réaffirmé le soutien ferme des Etats-Unis à l'Etat hébreu face aux attaques "brutales" du Hamas.

L'Egypte, qui avait contribué à l'accalmie observée la veille après trois jours d'affrontements, et l'Iran, ont condamné l'"agression" israélienne.

"Les Israéliens doivent réaliser que cette agression, nous ne l'acceptons pas", a déclaré le président égyptien Mohamed Morsi, issu des Frères musulmans, qui sont considérés comme la maison mère du Hamas.

Un journaliste de l'AFP a vu au moins 20 bulldozers se dirigeant vers la clôture de sécurité entre Israël et la bande de Gaza, où sont déjà rassemblés des chars.

Selon un bilan de l'armée à la mi-journée, près de 200 roquettes se sont abattues sur le territoire israélien depuis le début de l'attaque israélienne, dont 48 ont été interceptées par le système anti-missile Iron Dome.

Ont été visées notamment les villes d'Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gan Yavné, Kiryat Gat et Beersheva, la capitale de Néguev, à 40 km du territoire palestinien.

Les cours dans les écoles ont été suspendus dans toutes les agglomérations du sud d'Israël situées dans un rayon de 40 km de la bande de Gaza.

Dans un communiqué, l'armée israélienne a indiqué avoir visé dans la nuit de mercredi à jeudi des dépôts de munition avec "une centaine de roquettes à moyenne et longue portée, et des infrastructures", endommageant ainsi "de façon significative les capacités du Hamas à tirer des roquettes".

"L'aviation a en outre visé divers groupes qui s'apprêtaient à tirer des roquettes contre le sud d'Israël. Des chars ont aussi ouvert le feu", a ajouté l'armée.

Selon un autre communiqué militaire, "l'aviation a dispersé jeudi matin des tracts appelant la population civile de la bande de Gaza à s'éloigner pour sa propre sécurité des installations du Hamas".

"Les sites de roquettes Fajr-5 (roquettes à longue portée de fabrication iranienne, ndlr) du Hamas ont été très sérieusement touchés, de même que ses installations de production d'armements et ses dépôts d'armes", a de son côté indiqué à l'AFP la porte-parole de l'armée israélienne, Avital Leibovich.

Les Brigades al-Qassam ont revendiqué le tir d'au moins 100 roquettes contre Israël, visant notamment Tel Aviv, mais l'armée a démenti tout tir en direction de la métropole israélienne.
