VENISE, Italie - De fortes pluies et les grandes marées accompagnées de vents violents ont provoqué des inondations dans les rues de Venise, qui connaît son sixième plus haut niveau d'inondations depuis 150 ans.

Cette dépression a inondé dimanche 70 pour cent de la cité des Doges.

Elle a provoqué le chaos dans le nord et le centre de l'Italie, notamment en Toscane où 200 personnes ont évacuées, selon l'agence de presse italienne ANSA.

Si les inondations dues aux grandes marées sont fréquentes à Venise à cette période de l'année, les eaux ont atteint 1,50 mètre dimanche, soit le sixième plus haut niveau depuis 1872.

Des barrières amovibles, qui protégeraient la lagune de la montée des eaux, sont en travaux depuis des années et ne devraient être opérationnelles qu'à partir de 2014.
