LOS ANGELES, 08 oct 2012 (AFP) - Le président américain Barack Obama a plaisanté sur son débat électoral raté face à son rival Mitt Romney, lors d'une soirée organisée dimanche à Los Angeles pour récolter des fonds en présence de nombreuses vedettes.
Lors de cette soirée où l'acteur George Clooney était présent, les chanteurs et musiciens Stevie Wonder, Katy Perry, Jon Bon Jovi et Jennifer Hudson ainsi que le groupe de funk Earth Wind and Fire ont joué devant le président.
Evoquant "l'énergie infatigable, nuit après nuit", des stars de la musique qui se trouvaient devant lui, le président américain a remarqué: "Je ne peux pas en dire toujours autant", en allusion claire à sa terne participation au débat électoral de la semaine précédente, à Denver (Colorado).
La plaisanterie a provoqué des applaudissements de sympathie et des rires des quelque 6.000 supporteurs, massés dans le Théâtre Nokia, à Los Angeles, qui avaient payé chacun 250 dollars pour assister au spectacle des donateurs du président.
Après le spectacle, environ 150 convives, qui s'étaient acquittées chacune de 25.000 dollars, ont participé à un dîner.
Mitt Romney, qui tentera d'évincer Barack Obama de la présidence lors de l'élection présidentielle du 6 novembre, avait été considéré comme largement vainqueur du premier débat présidentiel entre les candidats républicain et démocrate.
Depuis, les partisans du président Obama ont intensifié leurs attaques contre Mitt Romney.
